About

Kate Daniel, founder and creator of South Mountain Goods, was born and raised in the midwest, but moved to CA in her 20s, and now lives on the central coast with her husband and their 3 children.

“Art has the power to render sorrow beautiful, make loneliness a shared experience, and transform despair into hope.”  Brene Brown

SMG was born out of a need to create in the thralls of postpartum depression after Kate's second born. Creating brought joy, connection, and color back into her life in a simple and tangible way.  What started as a therapeutic outlet, eventually evolved into sharing her work with friends and family before officially becoming South Mountain Goods in 2018. The primary purpose of SMG is still a creative outlet and a place for experimentation. Her work is strongly rooted in the history and natural elements found in the American West.
